Privacy Policy

Nexous is free to read and does not require an account. This page explains the data collected from the people who do create one, what happens to a topic request, and which third parties are involved.

1.Who is responsible

Nexous is operated by Akhil, an individual based in India, who is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. Questions about anything below go to contact@nexous.in.

2.What is collected

Most of the site collects nothing. Reading a lesson, watching an animation or taking a quiz does not require an account, and the results are not sent anywhere. Data is collected in three situations:

If you create an account. Your email address and a password, which is hashed by our authentication provider and is never visible to us. During the welcome step and afterwards on your account page you may optionally add a full name, engineering branch, year of study, college, phone number and profile picture. Every one of those is optional and can be cleared at any time.

If you mark topics as done. Signed-in progress is stored against your account so it follows you between devices. Signed out, the same information stays in your browser's local storage and never reaches a server.

If you send a topic request. The name, email address, phone number, subject and message you type into the request form, so that a reply can be sent.

Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs — IP address, browser user agent, page requested and timestamp — for security and diagnostics. These are ordinary web-server records, not a profile of you.

3.Why it is collected

  • To sign you in and keep you signed in, and to show your progress on the device you are using.
  • To decide which topics get built next. Branch, year and college tell us which syllabus a request is coming from; the request queue is ordered by what students are actually stuck on.
  • To reply to a topic request or a message, within 48 hours.
  • To email you about new topics — but only if you explicitly ticked that box. Consent is recorded with a timestamp and is never assumed from the fact that you have an account. Every such email carries an unsubscribe link.
  • To keep the site up, and to investigate abuse or errors.

Your data is not sold, rented, or traded. It is not used to build an advertising profile by us.

4.Cookies and local storage

Essential cookies. If you sign in, our authentication provider sets a session cookie so that you stay signed in between pages. Without it the account system cannot work, so it is set for signed-in visitors only and cannot be switched off separately from signing in.

Local storage. Progress for signed-out readers is kept in your own browser. It is not a cookie, it is not transmitted, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Advertising cookies. See the next section.

5.Advertising

This site is free, and is funded by advertising served by Google and its partners.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie — enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org.
  • How Google handles data from sites that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent before any advertising or analytics cookie is set, and can change or withdraw that choice at any time from the consent link on the page. Declining means you see non-personalised ads; it does not restrict any part of the site.

6.Who else processes your data

Nexous is a small site and relies on established providers rather than running its own infrastructure. Each is a processor acting on our instructions:

  • Supabase — accounts, passwords, profiles and saved progress. Privacy policy.
  • Vercel — hosting and server logs. Privacy policy.
  • Google — advertising, and a Google Sheet that receives topic requests so they can be worked through. Privacy policy.

These providers operate servers outside India, so your data may be stored or processed abroad. Beyond them, data is disclosed only where the law requires it.

7.How long it is kept

Account data and progress are kept for as long as the account exists. Delete the account and they go with it. Topic requests are kept for as long as the request is useful for planning the roadmap. Server logs are kept for a short period by the host and then rotated out.

8.Your rights

You can see and change everything on your profile yourself, from your account page — that is the fastest route for a correction. Beyond that you may ask for a copy of the data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, or withdraw consent to marketing email at any time.

Write to contact@nexous.in and the request will be answered within 48 hours. There is no charge.

9.Children

Nexous is written for undergraduate engineering students and is not directed at children under 13. Accounts are not knowingly created for them, and no data is knowingly collected from them. If you believe a child has given us data, write to contact@nexous.in and it will be removed.

10.Security

Passwords are hashed by the authentication provider and are never stored or seen by us. The site is served over HTTPS throughout, and access to the underlying data is restricted to the operator. No system is perfectly secure, and this policy does not promise one is.

11.Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes affecting how your data is used will be announced on the site. Continuing to use Nexous after a change means you accept the revised policy.

12.Contact

This policy describes actual practice on this website. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional about your own obligations. Queries about it are welcome at contact@nexous.in.
